For those of you who don't know what crossfit is (which I'm assuming is most of you), wikipedia puts it pretty well. "CrossFit is a strength and conditioning brand. CrossFit combines weightlifting, sprinting, and gymnastics. CrossFit says that proficiency is required in each of ten fitness domains: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy. CrossFit athletes run, row, jump rope, climb rope and carry odd objects. They frequently move large loads quickly over long distances, and use powerlifting and olympic weightlifting techniques. CrossFit athletes also dumbbells, gymnastic rings, pullup bars, kettlebells, and many bodyweight exercises. CrossFit is used in nearly 1,700 gyms worldwide and by many fire departments, law enforcement agencies and military organizations" I love crossfit because every day is different. I never really hit that plateau people commonly hit. Its no easy workout though- I've never worked out so hard in my life. Its always a good accomplishment to finish a daily workout. Here's crossfit's main website: www.crossfit.com if youre interested in learning.
So now that you know a little about crossfit, I competed in my first crossfit competition ever this morning! All of the proceeds went to childhood cancer. Our workout consisted of: For time- 80 yard sprint, 30 squats with a 25 lb sandbag over your shoulders, 21 burpees (this is a burpee:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21dvQyNiTjM), 21 box jumps- 20 inches, 40 yard sprints with a 25 lb sandbag 6 times, 15 burpees, 15 box jumps, 40 yard sprints with a 25 lb sandbag 4 times, 9 burpees, 9 box jumps, 40 yard sprints with a 25 lb sandbag 2 times, 30 squats with a 25 lb sandbag, 80 yard sprint. It was a REALLY hard workout! I finished in 13 minutes 25 seconds. I've been feeling sick lately and was pretty sick today, but I still finished third! Here are some pictures Dan took...
Here's an awesome quote I read the other day from the guy who came up with crossfit:
"There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when circumstances permit. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results."
