Home!!

Not a whole lot of things have changed around the Adair home lately. Dan finished up his first quarter in dental school, and he did great! We just got back from Centralia for Christmas and had a great time as always. We saw everyone in my family, which is impressive (I'm the youngest of 7, all of us are married). I'll be honest, I'm seriously terrible at blogging- I never know what to write about! So, I'll keep it short and just post some pictures from my new camera Dan got me for Christmas!

Dan took a picture of my family picture when I was like, 8. He thinks I look just like "the Olsen twins" from the full house days. Eh?

Its been a while!

Where to start! I got a job about a month ago at an orthodontics office as the financial coordinator and its going great! Everyone I work with is super nice. Its not what I went to school for, but its a good job. I'm still doing as much as I can with fitness though. Right now, I'm working with Crossfit 614 (the gym I go to) to start up a Crossfit Kids with local Parks and Rec programs. I'm starting to train for Crossfit sectionals- which are in March (I think). Basically, Crossfit has a huge competition every summer which are comparable to the Olympics. Pretty much, sectionals are the first elimination round and it goes from there. I highly doubt I'll get any further than sectionals, but it should be fun anyways. Hmmm, what else has been going on. Dan is doing great in school- finals are in a couple of weeks so he's really busy studying and whatnot. He is such a hard worker! I'm so proud of him.
We had a great Thanksgiving! Dan has a cousin who lives in Cincinnati that invited us over for Thanksgiving dinner. We had a great time getting to know them better. She has such a cute family! To start the day out right, a few friends and I ran in a 5.09 mile Turkey Trot with over 4,000 other runners, I finished in 44:12. It was a lot of fun! We even won some pumpkin pies because we were some of the first 1,000 people to cross the finish line! Here's some pics!

Crossfit for Childhood Cancer

For those of you who don't know what crossfit is (which I'm assuming is most of you), wikipedia puts it pretty well. "CrossFit is a strength and conditioning brand. CrossFit combines weightlifting, sprinting, and gymnastics. CrossFit says that proficiency is required in each of ten fitness domains: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy. CrossFit athletes run, row, jump rope, climb rope and carry odd objects. They frequently move large loads quickly over long distances, and use powerlifting and olympic weightlifting techniques. CrossFit athletes also dumbbells, gymnastic rings, pullup bars, kettlebells, and many bodyweight exercises. CrossFit is used in nearly 1,700 gyms worldwide and by many fire departments, law enforcement agencies and military organizations" I love crossfit because every day is different. I never really hit that plateau people commonly hit. Its no easy workout though- I've never worked out so hard in my life. Its always a good accomplishment to finish a daily workout. Here's crossfit's main website: www.crossfit.com if youre interested in learning.
So now that you know a little about crossfit, I competed in my first crossfit competition ever this morning! All of the proceeds went to childhood cancer. Our workout consisted of: For time- 80 yard sprint, 30 squats with a 25 lb sandbag over your shoulders, 21 burpees (this is a burpee:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21dvQyNiTjM), 21 box jumps- 20 inches, 40 yard sprints with a 25 lb sandbag 6 times, 15 burpees, 15 box jumps, 40 yard sprints with a 25 lb sandbag 4 times, 9 burpees, 9 box jumps, 40 yard sprints with a 25 lb sandbag 2 times, 30 squats with a 25 lb sandbag, 80 yard sprint. It was a REALLY hard workout! I finished in 13 minutes 25 seconds. I've been feeling sick lately and was pretty sick today, but I still finished third! Here are some pictures Dan took...

Here's an awesome quote I read the other day from the guy who came up with crossfit:

"There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when circumstances permit. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results."

oh, hi, oh!

Some things have changed since the last blog, the main thing being I quit my job! Things just weren't working out to say the least. I've worked some pretty terrible jobs, but this was by far the worst. The actual work (personal training) was good, but without getting into it all, that's about it. So back to job hunting for me! Dan started dental school today- orientation is today and tomorrow and classes start on Wednesday. He's really excited about it. He's ready to be busy with school and start learning again. He'll be busy!
We're still loving Ohio so far. We love going to all the sporting events we can. I've never seen so many crazy football fans! Before we came out here, I thought I could imagine the football fans here, but no way! The city is all red (scarlet and gray are the school colors) and everyone is having the time of their lives every Saturday. Its pretty fun.
So last night, we went to Dan's white coat ceremony. Basically, all of the dental and dental hygienist (sp?) students received their white coats and "stepped into the world of dentistry" or something. It was really well done and decorated beautifully. It finally hit me that Dan will be a dentist! Here are some pictures: me and Dan!

We made it!

I finally started a blog (obviously... HA!) because we're far away from home, so it'll be fun keeping in touch with everyone! Dan and I made it out to Ohio (a 30 hour drive) Friday before last and we love it here so far! On the way here, we drove through Missouri, so we were able to see some of my cousins I haven't seen for 4 years. It was great seeing them! We are having a lot of fun exploring Columbbus. The city is so big compared to anything we have ever lived in. It is very hot and humid, so thank goodness our complex has a pool! So far, we have swam in it every day (I think) at least once a day. Its hard to cool down here because of the humidity, so the pool is perfect.
I just graduated with my bachelor's degree from BYU-Idaho about a month ago in exercise science with the hope to be a personal trainer. The day after I graduated, I took one of the more rigorous certification tests (Its called the CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) through the NSCA). It covered a lot of exercise physiology, nutrition, exercise technique, testing and evaluation, program design, and the organization/administration of the strength and conditioning facility. To make a long story short, I just found out I PASSED!!! Right after, like within 5 minutes, of finding out I passed the test, I found out I got a job as a personal trainer! We're very excited about it all. What is cool about me working full time is that because of that, Dan will be able to receive in state tuition, which will save about $40,000 a year!
ps don't mind the dates on the pictures, we haven't bothered to change it to the correct date on the camera!
